This morning, the U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of the top colleges and universities in the United States, and Princeton University unsurprisingly came out on top. Trailing Princeton at number two was Harvard, while Yale completed the triumvirate of elite schools. The rest of the top ten included Columbia University at number four, and Stanford University and Chicago Univeristy tying for fifth place. There was three-way tie for between Duke, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Pennsylvania, and Dartmouth College and California Institute of Technology tied for the tenth spot.

The report changed its criteria for rankings this year, organizing the list according to retention rates, graduation rates and selectivity.
