A new Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag preview looks at the technology and capabilites of it's newest engine.

As in previous games, getting a realistic look of water, waves, weather and how it all fits into the world around has always been a challenge. The new engine used in Black Flag attacks this problem at the core specifically aiming for next generation platforms.

Assassin's Creed 4 introduces a new weather system, dynamic lighting, and ground breaking physics to give mother nature an upgraded look unlike any other game. The system gives the virtual ocean, both in shallow waters and out in the high seas, an incredibly realistic look that was always a problem in previous games. Along with the new system comes vast upgrades to the weather system which makes individual raindrops and lightning storms feel like you're actually there.

Enhancements have also been added to ship combat while out pirating. Combat on the ocean is a major part of the game and the new improvements make for more seamless fight sequences and smooth transitions from boarding one ship to another.

By the look of it, these improvements will begin a trend in all gaming to provide more realistic looking weather and living conditions across the board. Check out the video and be sure to grab yourself a copy of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, dropping October 29 for all major consoles.
