Rent in New York City is high. Like, really high. When you have real estate brokers pulling stunts like renaming Brooklyn neighborhoods as an excuse to jack up prices, you occasionally have to resort to extremes. For example, living in a dumpster. It's a surefire way to cut costs.
Gregory Kloehn purchased a commercial dumpster for $2,000, then added a shower, toilet, sink, grill and stove. There are even retractable windows which allows you to regulate the amount of sunlight you allow into the place. A home is only what you make it.
It's cool that this scored the attention of HGTV, but could this be the future that Lena Dunham—and other New Yorkers—fear?
