The Jay Leno era of NBC's The Tonight Show is nearing its end. Again. Deadline reports that Leno's final episode will be February 6, 2014 - but his entire crew will be paid until September of thaty year, because that's when his contract with the network actually expires.
As reported earlier, the always eager to please Jimmy Fallon will try to do what Conan O'Brien couldn't and take over the responsibility of comedically easing America into that good night, sometime after NBC's Winter Olympics coverage (which runs from Feb 7-23). Meanwhile NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt has expressed an interest in keeping Leno around, citing "various ideas" that would give Jay a continued "presence at the network."
Translation: Leno's return date to muscle junior Fallon out of his chair has not been set yet.
