New York City Experiences Multiple Fatal Car Accidents This Past Weekend

During one horrific 24-hour period in New York City this weekend, five people were struck by vehicles and three lost their lives. At roughly 4:49 a.m. on Saturday morning, Latrisha Been, 31, was hit by a truck in Jamaica, QueensCarl Alvear, 34, was arrested and charged with manslaughter after leaving the scene of the crime. 

That night, 44-year-old Jose Santiago was killed by a vehicle traveling north on Nostrand Avenue, right by Avenue W. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Coney Island Hospital and police are continuing to investigate the accident. Just ten minutes later, at 11:20 p.m., a woman was hit by a car in Brooklyn. The driver stayed at the scene, and the victim's condition was unknown as of yesterday. 

A 30-year-old man was hit by a car at 2:46 a.m. in Brooklyn, suffering two broken legs. According to law enforcement sources, the man stayed on the scene and was not charged as of yesterday. The third fatality came at 5:41 a.m. Sunday morning when a 49-year-old woman was killed in Midtown. Police suspect that she fell into the street as the vehicle approached.
