Actor Dennis Farina has passed away after suffering a blood clot in his lung, Fox News is reporting.

According to his rep, Farina—who was best known for his role Det. Joe Fontana on Law & Order, as well as his parts in Get Shorty, Midnight Run, and Snatch—suffered a blood clot in his long early this morning, and passed away at a hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 69.

Farina, a Chicago native, was a police officer before he transitioned into acting in the early '80s. His first role was 'Carl' in the Michael Mann film Thief. It wasn't long before Farina built up an impressive resume that cemented his place as a Hollywood legend, and a celebrated character actor.

More recently, Farina starred in HBO's short-lived series, Luck. His final role is as Luigi in a film adaptation of the musical, Lucky Stiff.
