Show: Girls (HBO)
Though there were certainly more intense moments on television in 2012, there was nothing quite as surprising as Jessa (Jemima Kirke) getting married to the aspiring DJ/venture capitalist Thomas-John (Chris O'Dowd). The show's loyal yet demanding fanbase took to Twitter to let Lena Dunham know that they didn't buy the surprise nuptials and that Jessa could have chosen a better outfit for her wedding day. Fans generally agreed, however, that the choice of Lady's "Yankin'" for Jessa and Thomas-John's wedding song was inspired.
The season finale certainly came out of left field, but fans didn't seem that upset about being spoiled on the show's surprise ending. This might be because most of the Girls audience is used to being spoiled: only 600,000 of the eventual 4 million viewers per episode watch as it initially airs.
