Yesterday, jurors in the George Zimmerman murder trial were shown crime scene photos from the night he killed Trayvon Martin, including graphic images of the 17-year-old's body. A police officer who was one of the first to respond to the scene also provided testimony about his efforts to revive Martin after he was shot by Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla. last February.
According to Sgt. Anthony E. Raimondo of the Sanford Police Department, Martin was unresponsive when he found him lying face-down. Raimondo said he turned Martin over and attempted to give him CPR, but noticed the sound of air "escaping in a manner that it was not supposed to." He continued trying to revive Martin until paramedics eventually declared him dead.
During Raimondo's testimony, assistant state attorney John Guy showed jurors pictures of Martin's body and his wounds. Zimmerman's defense attorney Mark O'Mara also presented images of Martin's body when he cross-examined Raimondo. At this time, Martin's mother looked away and his grief-stricken father left the courtroom. The pictures left others present in the courtroom visibly disturbed as well.
