The Android invasion in console-lite gaming isn't over yet. Not satisfied being the operating system of choice for new less-expensive home gaming consoles, Google is producing its own.
The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that the console will be powered by the Android operating system and seems to be at least partly inspired by the success, albeit - newly minted success, of cheap Android-based consoles like the Ouya and Gamestick.
The other reason Google is jumping into the game market is a side-effect of producing its own integrated media delivery system for movies and games to your TV as Apple will be introducing gaming as a large part of its upcoming Apple TV updates.
Ouya, released earlier this week, has taken some heat for having poor performance - its runs Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor - while the incoming Nvidia mobile device Sheild and M.O.J.O. will use the Tegra 4 giving them a lot more graphical power at about $100 dollars more later this year.
If Google can invade our houses with sleek, low cost and accessible devices for video games and movies we're all about it. Devices that run pure Android (the non-3rd party tampered with versions) like the Galaxy S4 and HTC One work great so we're excited to see some Google sleekness coming to gaming from the source.
