Flushing, Queens is now home to the first public school in the country with an all-vegetarian menu. The Active Learning Elementary School, also known as P.S. 244Q, serves breakfast and lunch to over 400 students in Pre-K through third grade. The school aims to take an active role in teaching children to eat healthy early on.

Principal Robert Groff, who founded the school in 2008, says "The founding of our school was based on health and nutrition and teaching kids how to make healthy choices in the belief that they would be more successful academically and in their life."

The school slowly scaled back on the number of days per week that it would serve meat before completely eliminating them in January. Pizza is still available on Friday's—cheese only, though.

The best part of all of this is that the students love it.
