Are the vast oceans and stunning scenery of Mother Earth getting you down? Look no further: Mars One, a private spaceflight project led by Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp, is starting preparations to colonize the red planet in 2023, and they are taking applications.

They will select 24-40 candidates who will travel in groups of two men and two women to Mars, with one group at a time leaving earth every two years. What's the application process, you ask? Well, it's 2013, so you guessed it: it's a video application. Tell the world why you should be chosen with a video posted to the Mars One website. Everyone else will be able to rate your video in an effort to narrow down the winning applicants to those who get the most votes. Applications close August 31, 2013.

Can't stress this enough: it's a one-way ticket. If your experience is anything like Ice Cube's, then it's probably not worth it.
