Kotaku interviewed gamer and devout Christian Breen Malmberg about his objection to the forced baptism in the beginning of BioShock Infinite.
While players aren't forced to become Christians in the video game, they must submit to baptism in a "religion" that worships the fictional prophet Zachary Hale Comstock. Malmberg saw this as blasphemous and opted not to go through with it. "As baptism of the Holy spirit is at the center of Christianity - of which I am a devout believer," Malmberg told Kotaku. "I am basically being forced to make a choice between committing extreme blasphemy by my actions in choosing to accept this 'choice' or forced to quit playing the game before it even really starts."
Breen explained his position to Valve where he downloaded the game and they gave him his money back. "I suspect that it is indeed entertaining and well-done (except for the content in question) and have already purchased and enjoyed the first two BioShock games immensely," he said.
