It's been revealed that the NYPD officers who killed 16-year-old Kimani Gray in Brooklyn last weekend have been previously sued for civil rights violations, costing the city of New York $215,000 in settlement money. The officers have been identified as Sgt. Mourad Mourad and Officer Jovaniel Cordova, and have had five lawsuits filed against them. The suits include allegations of wrongful arrests and illegal stop-and-frisks.
According to attorney Brett Klein, who represented the plaintiffs in four of the five cases, the actions of the police officers display a "disturbing pattern of unconstitutional and aggressive stop-and-frisk practices." One case involved Sgt. Mourad trying to rip a driver's underwear off during a traffic stop and another involved Officer Cordova punching a man in the face.
Both officers have been placed on administrative duty while an investigation in conducted.
