That FX pilot fromHomeland's Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff and Six Feet Under's Craig Wright, called Tyrant, is moving forward with a major new player. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award-winning Life of Pi director Ang Lee has just joined the project, and will be directing the pilot of the series in Morocco. Lee was, reportedly, a "pipe dream" for producers, who reached out to him before the Oscars last month - but after Lee took home the statue for best director, he expressed interest in the show.
As previously reported, the concept for Tyrant was imagined by Raff, who created and wrote every episode of the Israeli series that Homeland is based on, Hatufim. Gordon, who adapted Hatufim into Homeland, then paired up with Wright to develop the project for U.S. television, at which point it was swiftly picked up by FX - the same network that turned down Homeland two years ago.
The series focuses on a modest American family who are "drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation." It will be Lee's first project for television.
