There's probably some 'HBO won't be enlightened again' joke here or something, but we'll spare you and just relay the sad news: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the premium cable network has opted to cancel the Laura Dern-starring series Enlightened after two seasons.
Though it consistently struggled in the ratings, the show earned multiple award show nods during its first season - Dern won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for her lead role, and the show itself was nominated for Best Comedy Series. The series was created and written by Mike White, who also starred alongside Dern in a supporting role.
There is a minuscule sliver of hope though - diehard fan Patton Oswalt is already campaigning to get Netflix to pick up the series. So, maybe to be continued? Amy Jellicoe would be proud.
