What a horrible way to begin Spirit Week. An innocent game of tug of war at El Monte, CA'sSouth El Monte High School turned into a bloody mess after two students had to be hospitalized because of missing fingers.

Seniors Pablo Ocegueda and Edith Rodriguez were among the 40 students participating in the game. As it got intense, the rope snapped, severing four digits on both of their right hands. Rodriguez lost her left thumb in the madness as well.

It isn't 100 percent clear how the injuries occurred, but fire dispatcher Eddie Pickett from Los Angeles County says that the rope was wrapped around the students hands. Ocegueda and Rodriguez were being prepared for surgery at  Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center on Monday afternoon, where doctors were praying that they could attach the missing fingers.
