Whether you go to shows a lot or little, you probably wonder if the band is any good live or not.
That's where ShowScoop, a free application released on iOS today, comes in. By crowdsourcing ratings of only live shows, users can see what they're in for before they buy a ticket.
Ratings are tallied by stage presence, sound quality, visual effects and crowd interaction. Users can also submit photos of shows and follow bands to keep up with reviews and photos as they come in. Of course, the success of the app depends on how many people use it, and as of press time only 840-plus were. But the addition of the iOS app could grow that number, as the web app only had 100-plus users when it launched last summer.
Since touring is so essential to the industry these days, the concept could prove useful for bands building their career on the road. And for concert goers tired of paying for Coachella, where both camping and food are obscenely expensive, ShowScoop might help them find cheaper alternatives, like Pitchfork or Austin City Limits.
