Call of Duty isn't just a game anymore, it's an international pastime and coincidentally, the world famous shooter is also the the favorite of baseball superstar Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants. Matt's love for CoD isn't a secret as he's been running and gunning since the game's earlier releases. Matt took out some time off of the mound to talk to us about his multiplayer adventures and share a few of his strategies.
What are your thoughts on the "Revolution" Maps for Call of Duty?
I'm excited. I haven't gotten a chance to check it out just yet but I can't wait to go in there and see what they [Treyarch] put together. It's going to be a lot of fun.
From what you've heard about them already, do you think the maps will give you an advantage or disadvantage?
I'm hoping that it will give me more of a leveled playing field since I haven't been playing that much these days. The good thing about is that everyone else playing is going in blind to so maybe that'll work out well for me. I don't want to go up against any elite guys, hopefully none of the developers jump on either.
"Whenever get a chance I become a sniper but what happens is that I'll always run out of a bad hiding spot and get shot up. Sometimes, I'll just throw grenades and hope that I hit somebody."
How much do you get to play these days?
I haven't played much in the last year. In previous years I've played a decent bit but this year I haven't gotten to play that much. I've got a two year old daughter and I haven't been carrying around my console as much but I've always enjoyed playing Call of Duty and been on top of every release. This is my go-to shooter game.
What are your thoughts on pro-gaming's rise this year.
To be completely honest, I never thought that someone could even do that. It sounds awesome to me. If you're logging all those hours doing this, it's awesome to be able go out there, do your thing and get paid for it. If you're playing that much, you might as well get something in return.
What's your strategy for your upcoming match?
I'm going to try not to die [laughs]. Maybe duck and dodge some but for the most part I'm going to try and stay alive longer than everyone else.
Do you have any favorite weapons in CoD?
I don't really have a favorite but if anything, I like the sniper rifle. Whenever get a chance I become a sniper but what happens is that I'll always run out of a bad hiding spot and get shot up. Sometimes, I'll just throw grenades and hope that I hit somebody.
How excited are you for the new baseball season?
We're all really excited to see what each other is going to do and see if we can repeat what we did last year. We've got a lot of work to do so I think we all need to just stay level headed and focused on getting what we need done.
Have you ever been into baseball video games?
You know, I've never really been a huge baseball video game fan. I play real-life baseball all day and after all that, I'd rather get home and have another outlet.
Some complain that baseball video games are a bit lacking when it comes to realism. What do you think could make them better?
I don't know, the games that I have played have been really good. There are probably a lot of aspects about actual baseball that would be hard to make more realistic like the catching, hitting and pitching but the stuff I've seen is really good.
