Should a rapper try and compete on talent competition shows, like X Factor and The Voice. It's a tricky question because, regardless of the genre, every artist wants their big break. Recently, one of the newest host of American Idol Nicki Minaj weighed in on the issue. “I definitely don’t think a rapper should be in this competition.”

“The hip hop community wants you to be credible,” Nicki explained. “They want to know that you really went through a certain thing in your life. This is different. With singing, people really don’t care what you’ve necessarily gone through… But with rap, it’s different. So I would never go on a show like this as a rapper, and I wouldn’t encourage anyone else to come on as a rapper.”

Obviously, Nicki isn't trying to crush anyone's dreams, but she has a point, right?
