As we continue our season-long goodbye to The Office with another new episode tonight, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that some old cast members will be coming back for one last trip to Dunder Mifflin. According to the article, Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak will return during this final season for an unspecified number of episodes.

The show’s producers are trying to get them back for more than just the series finale, but it all depends on their schedules. Zach Woods, who played Gabe previously on the show, will also make his return, though no real details were revealed about that.

Executive producer Greg Daniels also said that during the course of the season, one member of the Dunder Mifflin family will be fired, and we will finally find out more about the documentary crew that has been filming the show for the past nine seasons. And while that all sounds like a nice end to the long-running series, there is a bit of bad news. Daniels again said that there are currently no plans for Steve Carell to reappear during this final season.

"Steve is very much of the opinion that the 'Goodbye, Michael' episode and the story arc we did leading up to it was his goodbye to fans and the show," Daniels said. "This season is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have. At the moment, we don't have any plans for him to come back."

We’re still not completely buying that Carell won’t be back, but at this point we wouldn’t be surprised either way. We’ll just have to keep watching to know for sure.
