They say that sharing is caring, but the act of giving can also be costly. Just ask Anwar Ogiste. Through Flava Works which happens to be “a company that produces gay media featuring black and Latino men,” Ogiste will be required by a federal court to fork over what is being deemed “the largest file-sharing related damage award in U.S. history.”
At $1.5 million for a mere seven films shared, Ogiste will owe $214,000 per flick. Ouch! As The Next Web points out, since "a firm percentage of the US population has used Bittorrent in one form or another to download all sorts of content, this sort of lawsuit is unsettling." If this news doesn't send a chill down your frequent file-sharing spine, we don't know what will.
