Listen: Canadian Astronaut Records First Song Aboard International Space Station

Intergalactic tunes.

History was made on December 23, 2012 when Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield became the first person to record a song on the International Space Station. The song, "Jewel of the Night," is a  Christmas carol Hadfield wrote and played with a guitar that's been aboard the ISS since 2001.

Hadfield has plans to continue making music in space. The mission specialist co-wrote a song with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies called "I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing)," which the two will play together using a new infrastructure that, according to CBC News, will perfectly synchronize a transmission that travels at least 600 kilometers. After Hadfield and Robertson first play together, then the two will perform the song with the rest of the Barenaked Ladies in March and then, in May, with a children's choir.
