George Zimmerman is taking legal action against NBC, suing the network for allegedly making him look like a "racist and predatory villain." Zimmerman filed a complaint on Thursday, claiming that “NBC News saw the death of Trayvon Martin not as a tragedy but as an opportunity to increase ratings, and so set about to create the myth that George Zimmerman was a racist and predatory villain.”

Zimmerman is suing NBC for "defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and seeks unspecified damages as well as a trial by jury." This was announced via GZvsNBC.com, a website established by his legal team.

Back in February, Zimmerman killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford, FL. NBC News aired an edited version of his 911 call, which made it seem as if Zimmerman voluntarily told the operator that Martin was "black." In reality, he had responded to a question about whether the "suspicious figure" he was calling to report was "black, white or Hispanic."

The edit launched an internal investigation, forcing NBC to admit that it was an "error." It led to the termination of two employees, and a third was fired over an unrelated edit.
