Vulture is reporting that Michael Bay and Paramount are looking to shoot Transformers 4 in China next year because of the profit potential the country can give the film. If the studio teams up with a production partner in China and films there, the likelihood is better that the country will have a wider release for the movie when it hits theaters in 2014. Then all parties will be able to reap the benefits of one of the fastest growing film markets in the world.

One insider told the site, “By getting Chinese culture into it, there’s a better chance of getting it into China and less chance of getting frozen out.”

With budgets for these blockbusters being well-over $200 million oftentimes, studios have to do whatever they can to ensure success. The same thought process went into Iron Man 3, which was filmed partly in China and actually had a script written to include the country in some capacity.

As blockbusters become more about the bottom line and less about the art, you can expect more moves like this in the coming years.
