While YouTube will live-stream the 2012 presidential debates, Tumblr will cover the discourse in the only way that would make sense for the blogging platform: with GIFs.
No, we're not sure how this will work. All we know is what Tumblr has told us. And that is that it will employ a "crack team of GIF artists cranking out instant animations of the best debate moments, from zingers to gaffes to awkward silences."
That "crack team" will include popular GIF-makers like Mr. GIF, Topherchris, Lacey Micallef, and Bobby Finger. And to add actual context and information for each GIF, Tumblr has teamed up with the Guardian, which will be live-blogging each debate.
Will this work? Who knows. It doesn't sound like a very enjoyable way to follow a debate, but in the event Obama or Romney do something GIF-worthy, you'll know exactly where to find the GIF: Tumblr's Gifwich blog.
