A fire has destroyed at least 80 homes in Breezy Point, Queens, and firefighters were forced to combat the flames while standing neck deep in water due to rampant flooding. According to Mayor Bloomberg, the six-alarm blaze was finally contained raound 11 a.m. this morning, 12 hours after it was first reported.

The fire began in a flooded Zone A area during the peak of Huricane Sandy, drawing nearly 200 firefighters. According to Bloomberg, the strong winds were "devastating," blowing from one building to the next. City officials say that most of the area had been evacuated prior to the fire, and that no serious injuries were reported.

At this time, the cause of the fire has still not been determined.
