First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #299 (1988)

Every time we hear people talk about how much they want to see a Venom solo film, we get Vietnam type flashbacks of the terrible Venom: Lethal Protector miniseries that Marvel put out during the '90s. In this series, the House of Ideas tried to establish the character as a jovial anti-hero so it could make him more marketable to the masses. What we got instead was a severely neutered version of a once-vile villain that forever stained his legacy.

Venom is an alien menace fueled by hate and an occasional craving for human brains, and why someone would ever want to turn him into yet another superhero is beyond our comprehension. And after we saw Topher Grace rock some frosted tips to play the character in Spider-Man 3, we’re not sure bringing him back to theaters as a villain again is a great idea either.
