Gaming mice may all look the same but anyone who is into gaming on a PC can tell you that there are vast differences in what you can get your hands on. There is one group of people who always have a challenging experience with gaming mice though and that's lefties.
Since most people are right-handed, it only makes business sense that a company put out products for them but for one of their latest releases, Razer has taken south paws into consideration with their Taipan ambidextrous mouse. Now, whether you're a righty or lefty, you'll get the same experience minus the fatigue.
At first glance, the Taipan looks like any old other mouse except for the glowing scroll wheel and illuminated logo on the body. There's two buttons on the top of the device along with two on both sides. Each one of them are programmable through Razer's new Synapse cloud-based configuration program. The Taipan is really light but doesn't feel cheap. There's rubber on the sides for gripping and smooth feet on the bottom to glide evenly on any surface. Given it's understated look, you won't have to worry about looking like you're pulling a space grenade out of you bag. Unless that's what you're going for.
Where the Taipan really shines is in its features. You can use this thing on anything. Mouse pads, bare wooden desks, fast food restaurant trays, we've even used it on a bed with crumpled sheets and got the same results in accuracy. With the Synapse software, you can calibrate it to "learn" a surface and the mouse will adjust it's reaction accordingly. This comes in handy when you're on the move and you don't know what the conditions you'll be playing in. Also as a general computer mouse, you may find your self sitting on the floor at a convention with nothing but the carpet to mouse on. Luckily, the Taipan performs like a charm. Synapse also allows you to store your settings and load them up again if you need to.
One other cool feature you'll find in the Taipan is it's ability to feel when it's lifted from a surface. When that happens, the mouse instantly becomes inactive keeping you from making unwanted moves during gameplay. Sorry, no more blaming the mouse for your blunders.
The Razer Taipan is a great performer in looks, features and durability. Righties and lefties will be able to enjoy everything it has to offer an not look like an ubergeek while doing it. For more info, check out their site here.
