A 49-year-old Oregon woman was awarded $900,000 after allegedly receiving herpes from a man she met through an Internet dating website. The two met back in 2010, and had sex after their fourth date. Less than two weeks later, the woman suffered a herpes outbreak.

The woman says she asked the man, a 69-year-old retired dentist, to wear a condom. Though he agreed, she says he somehow removed it without her knowledge, then told her that he had herpes after the fact. Since the incident, the woman has had multiple outbreaks, leading to bouts of depression.

The man testified that he was unaware he was contagious. His attorney attempted to argue that the woman knew the risk before the two had sex and could’ve been infected by someone else. The jury, however, felt otherwise. The lesson here: wrap it up, or it’s a wrap for your finances.
