Without participation by either Robert DeNiro or Martin Scorsese, Variety is reporting that production has begun on Raging Bull II. Starring William Forsythe as the older Jake LaMotta, and Mojean Aria as the younger version, this sequel will focus on the legendary boxer's early days, as well as his life after his career as a fighter. Tom Sizemore, Joe Mantegna, and Penelope Ann Miller will also have parts in the movie, which will be directed by Martin Guigui.
Obviously the original Raging Bull is one of the greatest sports movies of all time, and, honestly, it's up there with some of the best films in general. Why anyone felt the need to make a sequel is simply beyond our comprehension. As Scorsese already told GQ after first hearing about this project, "I really don't know what Raging Bull II would be."
Neither do we.
