Busted for numerous privacy invasions of users over the past few months, Google’s reputation has been muddied a bit. So, for purposes of damage control, Google probably decided a little transparency as to how the company actually operates was needed. Today, Google has launched “The Story of Send,” an interactive site detailing the send-to-receive process of messaging via Gmail, as well as the company’s green initiatives. With the video above serving as a quick primer, Google reveals quite a few tidbits about its practices, from duplicating every e-mail sent via Gmail on its servers to its streamlining of its data centers to make them 50% more energy efficient than any of its competitors’ sites.
