"Tribes: Ascend" Skis Up Freemium Charts With 800k Players

The free PC shooter has attracted tons of gamers in a short time.

Frenetic first-person shooter Tribes: Ascend has been out for little more than two weeks, though it seems hardcore PC gamers are already warming up to the free-to-play model more than they probably ever thought they would.

Hi-Rez told Gamasutra that the game has already attracted more than 800,000 registered users. Traveling as fast as Tribes players tend to, they've probably collectively circled the sun by now. Science!

If you haven't already tried the game, don't let its learning curve deter you, because we hear it's worth it once you get the hang of it. We keep skiing into walls, so we wouldn't know.
