Taliban Commander Tries to Turn Himself In For a Reward

It didn't work.

A mid-level Taliban commander in Paktika, Afghanistan turned himself in to authorities last week after seeing a wanted poster with his picture on it and the promise of a $100 reward, with the intention of collecting the money himself.

According to the Washington PostMohammad Ashan walked right up to a police checkpoint in Eastern Afghanistan and held up the wanted poster next to his face. "We asked him, ‘Is this you?’" Specialist Matthew Baker explained. "Mohammad Ashan answered with an incredible amount of enthusiasm, ‘Yes, yes, that’s me! Can I get my award now?’”

He was arrested on the spot by a few stunned U.S. troops, and biometric scan performed later confirmed his identity.

"This guy is the Taliban equivalent of the ‘Home Alone” burglars," a U.S. official commented on the case. Honestly, we couldn't have put it any better ourselves.
