If you think you're good at Super Mario 64, get ready to feel really inadequate. Avid speedrunner Siglemic is livestreaming a seven-day, 12 hours-a-day marathon of the classic game as he attempts to break the world record for a full 120-star speedrun. That means getting every star in every level in the game, including all the secrets scattered around the castle and the ones for getting 100 coins in each course, and then beating bowser for the third time. The current world record is around one hour and 48 seconds, and his personal best (the last time we checked) was off by less than 30 seconds. It's serious, folks.
When we opened his broadcast, we weren't expecting to sit there for almost two hours and watch him play the entire game, but he can make Mario do things we had no idea were possible. It's like thinking you're good at sex and then watching porn for the first time at 40 years old. I've never been so enraptured watching someone play a game—check out his Youtube channel for evidence.
How much practice do you need to get this good? Well, Siglemic has played Super Mario 64 for 3,000 hours in the last year (or so he claims). That's almost half his waking hours; and we feel lazy when we spend one day sitting around playing video games.
