After indie developer Michael Steeber contacted Apple about the possibility of an iOS update for Siri across all iPhone models, Apple Engineering responded with a firm denial.

“Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices,” replied Apple in an e-mail to Steeber.

Widely considered the hallmark of the iPhone 4S, Siri is one of the few significant upgrades found on the new model, which disappointed many for its relative lack of evolution—no 4G, for instance—from the iPhone 4. Therein, failing to extend Siri to everyone will in turn extend the shelf life of the 4S.

However, Siri hacks for the iPad and iPhone 4 have naturally begun to spring forth.
