Lots of companies are jumping on the free-to-play bandwagon. It has worked on the mobile platform and one of these days, someone is going to make it work on the console and C platforms. Perhaps Ubisoft will be the company to do it right first with their upcoming Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online.

Developed by Ubisoft Singapore for the PC, Ghost Recon Online aims to bring all of the strategy and realism of the Ghost Recon series to gamers all over the world free of charge. The game aims to bring everything that gamers expect from a modern shooter, such as selectable classes, customizable weapons, and a huge focus on team play, as well as social services including scheduled events and regular content updates.

Surely not everything associated with the game will be free. Ubisoft has to pay for the project in some manner so we expect to see some sort of premium service or options offered. Only time will tell, and you can get some real insight regarding the game in the first of what will be a series of developer diaries above.
