As Occupy Wall Street, the hippie gathering nonviolent protests in the streets of NYC’s Financial District, enter its 19th day, it seems like it’s been far too long without Anonymous to actively enter the fray.

Sitting on the sidelines no more, the hacker collective released a video statement (above) yesterday, comparing the government and federal agencies to “mindless automatons.” Additionally, they announced their first major directive, calling for people to download software to enable a DDoS attack on the New York Stock Exchange’s public site on Columbus Day (October 10), a bank holiday when the exchange is closed. Because that won’t accomplish much of anything—day trading would go on unperturbed by a DDoS even if it were opened—the video could very well be a low-budget hoax. The robot audio did seem like it was just ripped from Google Translate.
