The latest development in the great iPhone 5 rumor rollercoaster of 2011? The end of it all is (maybe) just around the corner.
AllThingsD is reporting that Apple will finally, officially, take the wraps of its stratospherically anticipated new device on October 4, and that new CEO Tim Cook will be on stage doing the honors.
The event will be something of a coming out party for Cook, who will be presiding over the presentation of the device(s) in Apple's first press conference since the departure of Steve Jobs. Will he evoke the magical? The revolutionary? No doubt the pundits will be watching closely.
If past is prologue, Apple will confirm (or disprove) the announcement date in the near future with an official invite to the press.
