Behind the sunglasses, high-budget videos and wave of hype, Brooklyn’s Sleigh Bells have some pretty incredible production chops. Last year’s Treats introduced the duo—Derek Miller, former guitarist for Florida hardcore band Poison the Well, and vocalist Alexis Krauss, a former schoolteacher who spent time in the teen-pop group Ruby Blue—to the world with a flurry of extreme trunk bass stuffed under a ton of distorted riffs.
This combination has been explored before, of course, but what really set Sleigh Bells apart were their hooks, in the form of either overdriven guitar bends, old Parliament samples, or cooed vocals. Regardless of how many times you hear “Rill Rill” or “Crown on the Ground,” they still worm into your brain like a Ray Ban-wearing parasite. With Brazil’s own CSS, this is a don’t-miss show. —Finn Cohen
