Honestly, we just wanted to make a list where a Mario game wouldn't be No. 1, and we're more than happy to give Braid top honors here. It's especially warranted for a title that has so influenced the genre since its release in late 2008 (would there be a Singularity or The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom without it?). Oh, and it was created by a (mostly) one-man team. Braid is a masterpiece of the puzzle-platformer genre, effortlessly weaving a thoughtful story into a game of time manipulation that'll test your gaming skills (and Soulja Boy's credulity). There's no doubt why it's still the highest rated Xbox Live title.
FUN FACT: The game's creator, Jonathan Blow, sunk more than $200,000 of his own money into the Braid's development. Sounds like a lot of ramen nights to us.
