Howard University Student Plans to Sue School for $10 Million Over Leaked Financial Records

A Howard University student who allegedly stole money from financial aid is now suing the school.

Tyrone Hankerson Jr., aka the student-employee who may have finessed Howard University out of $1 million from student's financial aid office along with staffers, is reportedly suing the historically black institution.

Last week, a whistleblower posted allegations of the embezzlement scandal in a now-deleted Medium post, later causing "Tyrone" to be a trending topic on Twitter and protests to break out at the university. The lawsuit against the university is regarding the fact that his private financial aid information was leaked to the public.

AfroNews reporter, Aya Elamroussi, broke the news on Twitter earlier today.

"Tyrone Hankerson to sue .@HowardU for $10 million for leaking his financial records, according to his lawyer, James Walker. The complaint will 'most likely' be filed Friday morning, Walker said," read her tweet.

This is a developing story.

Since the ordeal, Hankerson Jr has maintained his innocence.

"Please know that I have done nothing illegal or wrong. When the truth comes out, it will be confirmed that I followed all rules and protocol with the approval of the, then, financial aid officers in any grants, scholarships or awards given to me as a student who attended class all year round and traveled abroad," he told ABC News. "It is very sad that in an attempt to attack the current leadership of the school, a portion of my financial profile was illegally shared with media outlets, without any conversation or approval from me or my legal team."

While Erykah Badu was telling her beau to "call Tyrone," it seems Tyrone was calling his lawyer.
