The Yankees like to run a tight ship. It hasn't always worked out for them (some of their players throughout the years have been involved in various scandals ranging from steroids to prostitution), but as organization, they make every effort to keep their team out of trouble. This season, that includes helping them learn how to handle the press. The New York media can be relentless, so why not use spring training as an opportunity to give the team some media training?
But instead of bringing in guest speakers and the like, the Bronx Bombers have decided to show videos of Cam Newton and Russell Wilson's respective post-game Super Bowl press conferences to show players the do's and don'ts when talking to the media after a loss. ESPN's Andrew Marchandhas the scoop:
During the Yankees' media training, the Super Bowl is being used to portray the right and wrong way to act. Part of a video shown to pitchers and catchers compares how Cam Newton handled his Super Bowl loss to the way Russell Wilson dealt with his defeat the previous year.
This shouldn't come as a surprise from a team that bans facial hair, but if you're Cam Newton, aren't you mad about the Yankees taking this approach to teaching their players about media relations?
