Emilia Clarke, Daenerys Targaryen a.k.a. “The Mother of Dragons” on Game of Thrones, will soon be worshipped by the Star Wars fandom now that she’s joined the Han Solo spinoff. A StarWars.com news release announced the casting Friday.
“Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures,” it read. However, what exactly that role will be isn’t mentioned. The spinoff takes place before the events in the original Star Wars trilogy. Clarke joins the cast for the still untitled film, which so far includes Alden Ehrenreich as young Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Glover talked about landing the role last month, calling it an “honor.”
Clarke, who’s been on GoT since its 2011 start, will have more free time once GoT ends after season eight—maybe even earlier if she gets killed off. Despite Thrones, Clarke’s been making room for other films. She appeared in last year’s Terminator Genisys as Sarah Connor, and in this year’s drama Me Before You.
The Solo spinoff will be directed by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, also responsible for 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. The Han Solo film is set to premiere in 2018. In the meantime, Star Wars standalone film Rogue One premieres Dec. 16, while Episode VIII is set to arrive at the end of next year.
