Soulja Boy claimed his ongoing beef with Chris Brown did, in fact, start over a woman. And, no, he wasn’t talking about Karrueche Tran; he was talking about Brown’s most famous ex, Rihanna.
During an appearance on Hollywood Unlocked last week, the “Crank That” rapper sat down with his boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather to shed some more light on his feud with Brown. The 26-year-old insisted the beef goes all the way back to 2009, shortly after Brown had assaulted Rihanna.
“What he really mad about is that I was with Rihanna, you know what I’m saying?” Soulja told Hollywood Unlocked blogger Jason Lee. “And no one would have never knew that, n*gga, if he hadn’t come and started tripping about Karrueche. I was with Rihanna, son. Rihanna, n*gga. Yeah, Google the shit, YouTube the shit.”
Soulja went on to say he was hanging out with Rihanna and Brown at the Grammy Awards party right before the assault went down, and, not too long after, was contacted by Rihanna.
"I'm in L.A., I'm on tour with Lil Wayne at this time, Rihanna called my manager," he explained. "'I want to come to Soulja Boy Concert.' I'm a young n*gga from the hood from Atlanta, I never had nothing in my whole life, that's Rihanna n*gga. She the biggest R&B artist and she just got humiliated. 'You can come to the show.'"
But it didn’t end there. Soulja claimed he was dating Teyana Taylor at the time, and had kicked her off his tour bus so he could hang with Rihanna. Taylor allegedly became upset and called Brown to let him know about the situation.
The following day, Soulja flew to New York to continue his tour with Lil Wayne, and was once again contacted by Rihanna’s camp. This time, he says, he responded to her directly and eventually went to her hotel room to smoke, eat, and watch Pineapple Express, before Rihanna opened up to him about her assault.
“That’s what the beef really stems from. It stems from Rihanna,” Soulja said, adding that Brown had contacted him questioning his relationship with the singer. “Same shit he doing now with Karrueche, but way back then he wasn’t snorting so much coke.”
Soulja later accused Brown of stealing his style, and, of course, made sure to taunt the artist before their upcoming boxing match.
“So when we get in the ring, n*gga, treat me like I’m Rihanna, n*gga,” he said. “Beat me like you did Rihanna, n*gga, see what the f*ck happens. I’m going to beat your b*tch a** out. And Rihanna come to the fight, and Karrueche come to the fight […] You know they can’t wait to see this n*gga get his a** beat.”
