Solange’s fourth studio album, A Seat at the Dinner, has debuted at the top of this week’s Billboard 200, marking the singer/songwriter’s first No. 1 album on the chart. According to Billboard, ASATT earned 72,000 equivalent album units, 46,000 of which were in traditional album sales.
This milestone also puts Solange and her sister Beyoncé in an exclusive group of siblings who have No. 1 solo albums under their belt. They join Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, as well as Master P and his brother Silkk the Shocker.
ASATT also exceeded expert’s expectations. Leading up to this week’s results, it was forecasted that Bon Iver’s 22, A Million would debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album ended up taking the No. 2 spot with 71,000 units; however, it did take the top spot on the Top Album Sales chart, moving 58,000 copies in traditional sales.
Drake’s VIEWS fell to the No. 3 position with 47,000 units earned, followed by the Suicide Squad soundtrack at No. 4. The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway took a huge leap this week, surging from No. 25 to No. 5 with 33,000 units. Shawn Mendes’ Illuminate slipped to No. 6 (29,000 units); Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman rose from No. 10 to No. 7 (27,000 units); Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface took the No. 8 slot (25,000); and Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight fell to No. 10 (24,000 units).
