Zendaya Coleman practically grew up in the spotlight, which is why it makes sense the 19-year-old singer/actress/dancer is looked at as more than just an entertainer to her massive fan base. This notion can be quite burdensome, and even destructive, for those who aren't quite ready for the responsibility—just look at Miley Cyrus. It's clear Zendaya is, and she said as much when asked if she thinks about being a role model to her fans.

"Of course. I think it’s a responsibility," Zendaya says in her new COMPLEX cover story. The pop star elaborates on the topic, comparing her position to one of the most celebrated rap artists of all time. "But like Tupac Shakur, I’m a real model. Which means: I’m not pretending to be something that I’m not, because like he said, people are going to be disappointed when they find out who you are, because it’s not going to be what you presented to the world. So just keep it real. I’m a good kid and that’s all."

Zendaya is currently prepping her as-yet-titled sophomore album, and she's brought a handful of legends on board to guide her through the process of putting together a project that will showcase her musical growth since releasing her self-titled debut back in 2013. Among those contributors are Babyface, Diane Warren, andTimbaland

That said, don't expect to hear the project in full soon as Zendaya admits there's no date set in stone yet... and for good reason. "At this point, I’m trying to, at least for me, perfect everything. I’m a perfectionist," she says. "I’m a Virgo, so everything has to be exactly the way I want it. It’s also sticking with your vision. Once you really find that, a lot of people have opinions and you just got to really stay focused."
