Last year, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would be leaving the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation, much to the horror of other world leaders. Trump said that the Paris accord "will undermine economy" and added that it puts the U.S. "at a permanent disadvantage." Reactions from both the right and left were pretty much overwhelmingly negative, but now Trump is saying that there's still a chance the country could re-enter the agreement.
In an interview with Piers Morgan on British TV channel ITV, Trump revealed that he's up for re-entering the accord with a "completely different deal."
"If they made a good deal there's always a chance we'd get back," Trump said, according to the Guardian. "But it was a terrible deal for the United States. It was unfair to the United States. I believe in clean air. I believe in crystal-clear, beautiful... I believe in just having good cleanliness in all. Now, with that being said, if somebody said go back into the Paris accord, it would have to be a completely different deal because we had a horrible deal."
As usual, Trump's language in the interview avoided getting specific, circling around the subject without giving any concrete answers—or even sounding coherent. Here's what he said about whether he believes in climate change: “There is a cooling, and there’s a heating. I mean look, it used to not be climate change, it used to be global warming. That wasn’t working too well because it was getting too cold all over the place. The ice caps were going to melt, they were going to be gone by now, but now they’re setting records. They’re at a record level.”
The discussion also turned to Brexit for a while (see the video above), with Trump insisting he'd do a better job than Theresa May, because of course he would.
