If you are an ultra famous rapper and you get in trouble with the law, chances are you may have met Derrick Parker. A former NYPD detective, Derrick Parker heads up the Rap Intelligence Unit, which investigates crimes within the hip-hop community. The unit was created right after the Tupac and Biggie murders, in response to death threats that were being placed again the funeral home that was being used by Christopher Wallace’s family.
We recently sat down with Parker to discuss what goes into being the hip-hop cop, why crimes happen in the rap community, and how his department sniffs crime out before it happens.
