High school students in Indiana were photographed last week holding a German flag and performing what appears to be a Nazi salute. The Indianapolis Star reported Monday that the photo was initially posted to Twitter by a user who has since deleted their account.

The Indianapolis Star further reported that the photo was tweeted out with the line "It's a sad day saying goodbye to the German fam. It's been real Deutschklasse." The photo was taken in a World Languages classroom at Cathedral High School, a private Catholic prep school in Indianapolis.

Cathedral lists "diversity and inclusion" among its core values, and according to the Indianapolis Star, the students shown in the image will possibly face consequences from the school for their participation in the Nazi salute.

The school's principal, Dave Worland tweeted about the photo Monday, saying that the school sees the photo as "very serious and unacceptable," adding that the issue was going to be addressed with the students involved and their parents.

This is very serious and unacceptable to us and it is being addressed with the students and their parents ASAP.

In an email to the Star, Worland said it was "too premature to say whether any specific consequences will be levied to these students." Worland added that the class' teacher reported the photo right away and that the teacher in question was "not aware that the students who acted inappropriately were going to make poor choices."

Members of Cathedral High School's administration did not immediately respond to Complex's request for comment.
