In a profession that breeds grumpy old men, Bill Belichick is, perhaps, the grumpiest. He's always scowling, always pissed, and always winning. Today ESPN released a report that may, or may not, be the reason for that constant winning. That's up to you. But it was a report that somebody was going to ask him about at some point. That point was today, hours after the news broke.
When asked by Boston sports radio station WEEI if he'd kept up with the court of public opinion (via social media) regarding DeflateGate/Spygate, Belichick responded with the same, possibly fake, public persona he's been milking throughout his career:
"You should know that I don't have a Twitter account. I don't have InstantFace. I don't have any of that."
If you've been following Belichick (and taking in any NFL coverage over the past decade-and-a-half makes it impossible not to) it'd be fair to assume that his never-ending scowl and constantly unfriendly demeanor is part of some sort of performance art. He's definitely played dumb on social media before, calling Myspace "Myface," Facebook "Yearbook," and Twitter..."Twitter."
He then pivoted to the one thing he likely thinks about year round, football. Specifically Thursday Night's season opener against the Steelers...:
"No, I'm really just focused on Pittsburgh. That's where I'm at.
...a game he'll likely try to win by 50 points in an effort to stick it to those same people he claims to not know about.
So call your bookie if you got one.*
